Item 6 Public questions

  • Q1. Cllr. Bob Packham – Sherburn in Elmet – Fire Station coverage Sherburn in Elmet has a large industrial estate employing 10k people, reputedly the largest in North Yorkshire. There are plans for additional employment development in the area including at Gascoigne Wood Mine. In addition there are businesses on the Industrial Estate that use hazardous chemicals and where recent proposals will require COMAH notification and Hazardous Substances Consent. In addition, the residential population of the town has increased by 40% in recent years and will approach 10k by 2030. There is no Fire Station at Sherburn, meaning that in any incident there will inevitably be a delayed response, awaiting fire cover from either Tadcaster, Selby or potentially West Yorkshire. Many residents believe this should be addressed by establishing a Fire Station in the Town. Will the Chief Fire Officer and Deputy Mayor please consider this.
  • Q2. Margaret – Ripon – Primary Care I understand the Fire Service to be very much a response service for all fires and potential fire e.g. road accidents, and a provider of advice for matters such as smoke alarms etc. I am sure there are other duties but how do you see the service relating to issues in primary care such as, when available, picking people up from the floor when they have fallen in their own homes? Does or would this be possible ? Are there any other ways the service could assist primary care?
What statistics do you have on such matters if this does occur. Thank you
I may not be available for the online meeting I assume this will be available somewhere after the event.
