Item 6 Public questions
Q1 – E-scooters
We have had multiple emails from members of the public who alongside the Guide Dogs charity are concerned about the illegal and anti-social use of e-scooters, and the impact on blind and partially sighted people. They want to know that North Yorkshire Police are prioritising tackling the illegal use of private e-scooters in public places.
Q2 – Emma – Heworth- VAWG
In July 2024 the NPCC published a report setting out the scale of Violence Against Women and Girls, the impact on policing, a call for a “whole system approach” and the police service’s next steps.
Chief Constable, Catherine Clarke, said:
“Violence against women and girls is a foremost strategic priority for North Yorkshire Police.”
In conjunction with this report, in response to the public outcry at the rape and murder of Sarah Everard by serving police officer and ‘prolific flasher’ Wayne Couzens. The ongoing Angiolini Inquiry (Part 2) is tasked with investigating police culture, and womens safety in public spaces.
In light of this daming new information, will North Yorkshire police now take the lawful, necessary and proportionate steps to balance the human rights of the general public to ensure members of the public, specifically women and children are not subjected to men (wearing face masks) whilst exposing their (semi erect) genitals near Rowntree Park during the ‘York Naked Bike Protest’.
Will this issue be considered as a part of the force’s VAWG strategy for 2024 to 2027?
Q3 – Issues relating to Vetting.
