The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority elected its first ever Mayor on 2 May 2024.
The new Combined Authority represents a huge opportunity for people across North Yorkshire to have more control over investment in their region, and how public services can be run and overseen.
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority Order 2023, which provides for the establishment (including governance arrangements) of YNYCA, was laid in Parliament on the 7th of November 2023: The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority Order 2023 (legislation.gov.uk)
The Order was debated by both Houses w/c 11th December and signed by the Minister before in December 2023. In January 2024 the YNYCA was created in a shadow form prior to the Mayor being elected.
On May 2nd, the first Mayoral election was held, with Labour and Co-operative candidate David Skaith being elected as the first Mayor of York and North Yorkshire.
